dead man running, ross coulthart and duncan mcnab

Posted by literatureologylinzi in Uncategorized

my dad recommended this book, basically because bikie stories intrigue him.

dead man running is “an insiders story on one of the world’s most featured outlaw motocycle gangs…”

i haven’t finished the book yet, but i’d recommend it not just because the story line is interesting but also because it gives some insight into bikie gangs and their origination.

to be continued…

class disscussion

Posted by literatureologylinzi in Uncategorized

i couldnt figure out how to respond on LMS so i’ve responed here…

How can we ensure that everyone’s needs are met?
this class shouldn’t be treated like a unit 1/2 and a unit 3/4 it should be treated like any other class you have. there are going to be a lot of circumstances in life where you’ll be learning something and you’ll either have more knowledge than others, or less.
the only problem with needs being met would be the fact that our class is massive. but as BU mentioned in class today she’ll be holding sessions every fortnight, on fridays, and as well as that if for some reason she cant meet your needs i dont see why you cant discuss it with one of your peers, whether they’re in unit 1/2 or 3/4.
i personally am willing to let you know i’ll discuss anything you have trouble with, with you, and i might be of some help : )

How can everyone be happy to come to class when there is a lot of conflict?
i don’t see how there’ll be any conflict as long as everyone gets out of this mindset of anticipating conflict. the only reason year 11′s would cause conflict is as a deflection of the anticipated year 12 attitudes. same goes with the year 12′s. the only reason they would cause conflict is due to the anticipation of repeating things they’ve already learnt and supposedly being held back from their PB. personally i think a lot of it is misdirected aggitation and that if there is such a big problem with the classes it should have been discussed with a certain principal when the idea of a mixed class was presented rather than bringing it to the class when its too late to make changes.

Are all of the Year 11s interested in Literature?
i can’t answer this directly though i remember starting lit last year and i think at first it seems hard but as you adjust to different techniques you begin to love it. i do however think that the year 11′s need to discuss classes with BU and the teacher in charge of your course selection if you’re not doing an english because this year im finding english, not so much hard but, different because i’ve missed a years worth. i guess it depends on your competancy, because english was never really my strong point. Do have a talk to the teachers because even though this might be repetitive of things you might have already heard; your year 11 course choices affect your year 12 courses because a lot rely on previous knowledge gained from year 11 as well as making them easier to comprehend.

How can everyone feel comfortable and safe in the class room when there is conflict everywhere?
i think as time goes on and we work together more and more there wont be conflict. i think a lot of people need to grow up and realise that in life you’re going to work with people you dont agree with or like but you need to ackowledge that you’re working with them and try your hardest to get along.

now one more thing that wasnt questioned but as im blogging i can write my own opinions:

i think it’s really rude that people are speaking over people who BU has nominated to talk. not only is it rude but its time consuming and i think we’re old enough that we can have a little bit more classroom ettiquette. im pretty sure theres a general rule of respecting others and their opinions and by interupting or not listening you’re breaking both those.

Twilight, Stephenie Meyers

Posted by literatureologylinzi in Uncategorized

bella swan is beginning her new life in forks. after her mother remarries, she moves from california to forks to live with her father. her first day of school is where things begin to get interesting as her first encounter with edward cullens is enough to dazzle anyone. he seems to hate her for no reason at all, though there is a great reason. after the first day he treats her with more courteously and she begins to fall for him. she then figures out he is a vampire, though it is too late because she is in love with him as he is with her.

i read this book within the day as it was so intruiging. stephenie meyers writing technique is so exquisite it is mesmerising and you’ll find you can’t put this book down either. twilight is the first to a series of so far, 4 books.

Change of Heart, Jodi Picoult

Posted by literatureologylinzi in Uncategorized

just as typical of jodi picoult you can expect this book to have a twist and at the same time be completely heartbreaking, let alone changing. when i got into this book i couldnt put it down. june nealon has to choose between her morals and her daughter, as the man convicted of murdering her husband and first daughter, is the only person with the heart to save the only person she has left in the world her second daughter claire.

Whilst reading this book i cried as the twist at the end is built up so much as to bring on tears. and yet at the same time they aren’t neccesarily sad tears but more tears of relief that things turn out the way they do.

It took me about 2 months to read this book on again off again because it was exam week and then term break but when i read it twice in this time and both times i felt just as emotionally strong while reading it.

it reminds me a lot of one of her previous books keeping faith, and the characters from that book she has actually brought into this one as a way of concluding it as its based several years ater keeping faith. it also reminds me of the green mile in the miracles and the death row prisoner with a kind of child mentality.

im in love with jodi picoults way of writing so i have a biased opinion though as far as i’ve heard many others love her too and i’d recommend this book for sure.
